Loose-fill insulation in Summerside — settled depth is what you are buying

Blown-in material fills the awkward parts of an Summerside building that batts leave gapped — around cross-bracing, over the top plates of interior walls, into the shallow triangle at the eaves. It settles over time, which is why it is specified at a settled depth rather than the depth it looks on the day. Air sealing comes first, because loose material laid over an open ceiling penetration hides the leak instead of stopping it.

Moisture is what ruins it

Wet insulation is not insulation

Loose-fill that takes moisture packs down, loses most of its value and does not recover when it dries.

Finding the cause first

A damp patch in an Summerside attic means a roof leak, a bathroom fan venting into the space, or warm moist air leaking up through the ceiling. Blowing new material over any of those wastes it.

Summerside drywall in context

What we see in Summerside

In Summerside the drywall work is first-year settling, basement dev for first owners, Level 5 over builder-grade. We confirm what your home actually needs on site, in writing, before anything starts.

What it does for sound

A side benefit

A deep layer of loose-fill over an Summerside ceiling noticeably reduces airborne noise from outside — traffic, aircraft, neighbours.

Being clear about limits

It does very little for footsteps from a floor above, which travel through structure. If quieting the house is the real goal we would rather say which half this fixes.

Blowing into a wall that is already closed

Dense-pack

Loose-fill can be blown into closed Summerside wall cavities through small holes, packed to a density that stops it slumping and leaving a cold band at the top.

Where it fits

It suits an older home you do not want to open up. It needs the holes made, filled and finished afterwards, which is drywall work — so quote the patching with it rather than discovering it later.

Removing old loose-fill

A vacuum job, not a shovel job

Old blown-in comes out with a vacuum and hose into sealed bags, because disturbing decades of settled material makes a great deal of airborne dust.

What it buys

A clean deck to air-seal properly and, in older Summerside homes, the chance to see the ceiling structure and any past leaks before they are covered again.

Working in a cathedral or a low attic

Not every space suits it

A vented sloped ceiling needs its air channel kept clear, and a shallow attic may not have room for the hose or the depth.

Being straight about it

Where an Summerside roof space cannot take a proper depth without blocking ventilation, we say what the space can actually achieve instead of quoting a number the geometry will not allow.

What we hand over at the end

Evidence, not assurances

Bag count, target settled depth, and photographs of the finished Summerside space including the corners and the eaves.

Why it matters later

It is what lets you or anyone else confirm years afterwards what was actually installed, rather than probing a hole in the ceiling and guessing.

Loose Fill Insulation Summerside: your questions answered

How is old insulation removed?
With a vacuum and hose into sealed bags, not shovels, because disturbing decades of settled material raises a lot of dust. It also gives a clean deck to air-seal and a look at the structure before it is covered again.
How do I know I got what I paid for?
Bag count. Every bag states the area it covers at a given depth, so bags used divided by area is exactly what went in. We keep them, mark the target settled depth, and read the depth back at the corners rather than the middle.
My bathroom fan vents into the attic. Does that matter?
A great deal — it is the fastest way to soak an attic from inside. We look for it while the space is open and flag it before covering anything rather than blowing over the top of it.
Is blown-in better than batts?
In an attic, usually yes, because it flows around trusses, bracing and wiring where batts get cut short or forced and leave gaps. In open framed walls at regular spacing, batts are fine. We recommend by the space, not by what is on the truck.
Can you just add over what is already up there?
Usually, and it is the best value if the existing material is dry, even and uncontaminated. If it is damp, matted, rodent-affected or hiding unsealed penetrations, adding over it buries the problem — we tell you which one we found.
Does the attic hatch need doing too?
Yes, or it undoes a good part of the rest. It needs an insulated weatherstripped cover and a dam around the opening tall enough to hold the new depth back from spilling through every time it is opened.
