Loose-fill insulation in North Glenora — settled depth is what you are buying

Loose-fill insulation is blown in rather than cut and fitted, which makes it the right answer wherever a batt cannot go: over an irregular North Glenora attic floor, around trusses and bracing, and into wall cavities that are already closed. What you are paying for is settled depth spread evenly, and that is a thing which can be measured. Depth markers go in before the hose starts, and we read them at the corners rather than in the middle where it is always deepest.

What it does for sound

A side benefit

A deep layer of loose-fill over an North Glenora ceiling noticeably reduces airborne noise from outside — traffic, aircraft, neighbours.

Being clear about limits

It does very little for footsteps from a floor above, which travel through structure. If quieting the house is the real goal we would rather say which half this fixes.

North Glenora drywall in context

About North Glenora

North Glenora was part of a 900-acre farm owned by Malcolm Groat.

What we see in North Glenora

In North Glenora the drywall work is plaster and lath repair, popcorn and stipple ceiling removal, careful patching into original surfaces. We confirm what your home actually needs on site, in writing, before anything starts.

Topping up what is already there

Usually the best value

Dry, uncontaminated existing material does not need removing. Blowing over it to reach the target settled depth costs a fraction of a strip-and-replace.

When we say no

If it is damp, matted flat, rodent-affected, or hiding unsealed penetrations, adding over it buries a problem. We say which one we found in the North Glenora attic and price both options.

Working in a cathedral or a low attic

Not every space suits it

A vented sloped ceiling needs its air channel kept clear, and a shallow attic may not have room for the hose or the depth.

Being straight about it

Where an North Glenora roof space cannot take a proper depth without blocking ventilation, we say what the space can actually achieve instead of quoting a number the geometry will not allow.

Moisture is what ruins it

Wet insulation is not insulation

Loose-fill that takes moisture packs down, loses most of its value and does not recover when it dries.

Finding the cause first

A damp patch in an North Glenora attic means a roof leak, a bathroom fan venting into the space, or warm moist air leaking up through the ceiling. Blowing new material over any of those wastes it.

Weight on the ceiling below

Worth a thought

Insulation is light, but a deep layer of dense material over a large North Glenora ceiling is still a load, particularly on an older lath ceiling or a long unsupported span.

How we handle it

Where the ceiling is old or already sagging, the lighter material and a sensible depth beat the deepest possible number. Fixing the ceiling first is sometimes the honest recommendation.

Filling around bracing and trusses

Why batts fail here

Truss webs, cross-bracing and wiring turn an North Glenora attic floor into a shape no rectangle fits. Batts get cut short or forced, leaving gaps.

What blown-in does

It flows around all of it and fills to a consistent depth. This is the single clearest reason to choose loose-fill over batts above a ceiling.

Loose Fill Insulation North Glenora Edmonton: your questions answered

Do you seal before blowing?
Yes, and it is the step most often skipped. Loose material laid over an open ceiling penetration hides the leak rather than stopping it, and the warm moist air coming through is what wets the insulation from inside.
How is old insulation removed?
With a vacuum and hose into sealed bags, not shovels, because disturbing decades of settled material raises a lot of dust. It also gives a clean deck to air-seal and a look at the structure before it is covered again.
My bathroom fan vents into the attic. Does that matter?
A great deal — it is the fastest way to soak an attic from inside. We look for it while the space is open and flag it before covering anything rather than blowing over the top of it.
Can I still store things in the attic?
Only over a raised platform. Anything laid straight on the joists compresses the material and cuts a thin channel through the middle of the ceiling. Otherwise a fully insulated attic is not also a storage room.
How messy is it?
Dusty — the machine sits outside and a hose runs through the house to the hatch. We protect the route, seal around the hatch and vacuum afterwards. What the house looks like at the end is most of the difference between crews.
Can you just add over what is already up there?
Usually, and it is the best value if the existing material is dry, even and uncontaminated. If it is damp, matted, rodent-affected or hiding unsealed penetrations, adding over it buries the problem — we tell you which one we found.
